FEAST OF CLAUDINE – Gros Morne, Haiti

Three years ago, the school community changed the school feast day to Feb. 3rd, St. Claudine’s Feast Day.  This year the student committee asked to have mass at Church of Notre Dame de la Chandeleur, rather than the school as we usually do.  The celebration was marvelous.

For the first time the students provided liturgical dance – during the Gloria and after communion.  Marie Jo Desir, a friend of the

RJM community, prepared the dancers in the short time she has been helping out at school.  She is pictured leading the singing in the front of the girls dancing.

The church was filled with voices praising God!

The presider and homilist was Fr. Menard Valcin, SMM, Parochial Vicar Jean Rabel, who is a former teacher at Jesus-Mary School.  Concelebrants were Fr. Zacharie St. Jean, SMM, pastor of N.D. de la Chandeleur, Fr. Dachemy Destine, pastor of N.D. de Guadalupe, and Fr. Jérémie Bien-Ezard, pastor of St. Cecile’s, who is also a former teacher at Jesus-Mary School.

Our teachers provided most of the musical accompaniment at mass and the students did all the commentaries, reading and petitions.  Our school director, Met Leny Laguerre, thanked the priests, the Religious of Jesus and Mary, and everyone for the marvelous celebration.

After mass the students, shepherded by their teachers and parents, paraded to school accompanied by a fanfan (marching band).  Each class had already decorated their rooms where students shared a festive meal and each class presented  a song or dance or skit.

So Jesus-Mary School and St. Claudine had a grand feast Wednesday.
